RASEN AIKI CLUB (NANDRIN, BELGIUM)
The RASEN (Spiral) Aiki Club opened in January 2010 in the small town of Nandrin in Belgium. Etymologically AiKiDo is the study (the path: Do) of the harmony (Ai) with the universal energy (Ki), as originally developed by Ueshiba Morihei Sensei (1883-1969) and was officially inaugurated as a member of ABF on March 11, 2010 in the presence of Moslin-hanshi and several Belgian sensei. Today several different schools (Ryu) of Aikido exist.
The Aikido style taught in RASEN Aiki club is based upon the teaching of Jean-Pierre Dewandre Sensei (1942-2005) (see also MUSUBI Aiki Club) who was a student of Tamura Nobuyoshi Sensei for some years. This Aikido style is based upon three great principles: dodging the attack in such a way to create the surprise, unbalancing the attacker by controlling his body centre of gravity (Hara) and performing a technique adapted to the attack and to the attacker’s reaction (Takemusu Aikido), in order to avoid development of fixed attack and reaction schemes. In addition a great emphasis is placed into weaponry with Japanese wooden sabre (Bokuto), wooden stick (Jo) and wooden knife (Tanto). Aiki techniques and weaponry have been directly influenced by several Sensei from different schools: Moslin Christopher (UK), Vanhomwegen Michel (Belgium), Jacquet Jean-Pierre (Belgium), Kobayashi Hiroaki (Japan), and Koide Tadashi (Japan).

“ I began Aikido at the University of Liège, Belgium (see also MUSUBI Aiki Club) in October 1991, whom Sensei was Jean-Pierre Dewandre (1942-2005). Jean-Pierre taught at the MUSUBI Aiki club of the University of Liège for over 30 years until 2004. My first encounter with Chris Moslin-hanshi was in 2001. Some time later the MUSUBI Aiki Club became a member of the AikiBudo Fraternity. I received my Shodan grade from the hands of Jean-Pierre Dewandre, Michel Vanhomwegen and Michel Semal Sensei in May 2001. And I received the Nidan grade in February 2005 and the Sandan grade in December 2009 from the hands of Chris Moslin and other Sensei of the Aiki Budo Fraternity. After the passing away of Jean-Pierre, Michel Protz, Christiane Duchesnes and I took over the classes of the MUSUBI Aiki Club. Besides different clubs of the Aiki Budo Fraternity in England and Scotland I have been visiting other Dojo, in Belgium and abroad (especially during professional travels), after Ikkyu grading in 1997: in Belgium (Koksijde), Sardinia (Alghero), France (Paris), Hungary (Budapest), Canada (Montreal), England (London, Bath) and Japan (Miyazaki, Nagoya).
Why do I like teaching Aikido ? Well I believe I like teaching at first since it is part of my job at the University. And I like teaching Aikido to pass over all what I have been learning that has also been helping me in my daily life (private and professional): respect (ritual), concentration, timing, tactics (during faculty meetings f.i.), balance (mentally and physically), awareness. Today I am the official representative of ABF in Belgium. ”
